Halo 3 – It Took A While!

9 Nov

As some of you may already know, I have had Halo 3 sitting on my pile of shame for quite some time. The reason I bought it was to play and enjoy the whole Halo Universe, but I have never managed to play it for more than a few minutes at a time and I had come to the conclusion that Halo just wasn’t the game for me. Then…. Midlife Gamer decided to hold a Pile of Win event for Charity, the idea been we all select a game from our pile of shame to complete and get people to sponsor us for charity. Well I took a slightly different tact and decided to not complete a game from my pile but to start again and enjoy it. The game I chose, if you have not already worked it out was HALO 3.

So, Halo 3 was loaded up and I began to play the single play on Easy (I’m rubbish at FPS) and I played and played and played but for some reason I just could not get the hang of it or enjoy it but I decided that I would play it, complete it, trade it and then never go any where near another Halo game EVER. Then after a brief moan on Twitter about not enjoying this, someone suggested that I play through the Campaign (Not sure I have worked out the difference) but I gave it a go and I even ramped the difficulty up to Heroic 🙂 Oh, hang on! No I never, but I did move it up to normal (Big step for me). I started to play again from the start and I can’t say when it happened, but it did. I found myself looking forward to playing this, and now having completed the Campaign I can say that I am loving playing this to the point where Halo 4 is ready to go in the machine (Thank-you LoveFilm). I’m not sure I will ever attempt to play this game on any harder levels, or even play it online (I did attempt it last night, but couldn’t find any one at my level).

The only problem I have with the game now is remembering how to steer the vehicles every time I jump into one, although I did love the amount of vehicles and guns you get to play with in this game.

So, in summary I would like to thank everyone on Twitter that made me stick it out and carry on playing this game.

Roll on the weekend and HALO 4 #GoodTimesAhead

It it helps, I had the same problem with Halo 3. I got bought a Xbox for my birthday many years ago, and it came with Halo 3.

Like yourself, I really struggled with it to the point of rage quitting and not going back to it for a couple of years. Then when I’d got better at FPS’s on the controller, I went back and loved it. I’m now officially a Halo fanboy, and the fact Halo 4 is out, is really testing my will power with the Year of Shame Challenge
