Tees Pride 10K

31 Aug

What a beautiful day it was today for the Tees Pride 10k and 3k fun run, Vicky, Sydney, Reece & Myself walked up to the Hall of Trees on Hall Drive, Acklam and the kids joined in with the pre-race warm up! Well half heartedly from Sydney and pretty much not at all from Reece (13 year old lad, do I need to say more lol). The kids set off for their Fun Run through the Hall of Trees into some lovely weather and I have to say it was brilliant watching all these kids enjoying their run. Reece was the first one of our two back in a time of 20:04 (really chuffed with this from him as he has been complaining of a sore knee for a few days now) and Sydney powered home in a time of 24:55 and considering this is the first time I have managed to get her out running She did pretty good.

After that was over there was an hour to kill and a spot of wandering around before I started my warm up and was quite pleased that there was no pain from my Achilles. The only downside to this is I missed the start of the wheelchair race and I was really looking forward to cheering Jade Jones off (but I have heard She managed a PB, so well done to Jade Jones). Anyway it was time to make my way to the start line and the start of the 10k race. I set off really well and went through the 3k mark in just over 15 minutes and was really pleased with myself, but then the lack of fitness really got me and I struggled like mad from there on. Encouraged by other runners and musicians along the route were greatly entertaining and managed to get me to the finish line in a really slow 59:18. The other really enjoyable thing about this route is all the kids along Keith Road and Green Lane cheering away and giving high fives.

There was a massive amount of running clubs on show  from all over and all in all it was a brilliant day and all credit and thanks go to everyone that organised this event, everyone that took part and to each and everyone that lined the route. A great day made even better by the whole community.

As always a great tee-shirt and medal were provided to all finishers.

See you all next year 🙂

And for those that took part or even those that didn’t there is another event organised for Sunday 14th September which is the September Spectacular 5k trail race and 2k fun run at the Acklam Grange School, all going well and I will be there hopefully to see another great local turn out.

As well as these two events there will be Language Taster Sessions, International Food Markets, Climbing Walls, Bouncy castles and many more things beside.
