Durham City Run

26 Jul

The inaugural running of Durham City Run was both a 5K and a 10K race with both starting together, have to say I had my doubts about how well this would work but to be fair it worked very well with the race splitting at the end of the first of two laps.

The start was downhill from just above the Market Place, this was a problem as there were a lot of slower runners starting too far forward and it took around 1K to filter past everyone. Maybe future running a of this race could start on a wider road or stagger starts based on expected finish times.

The course itself was wonderful, some great views from the west side of the river, although there was a very narrow section that got a little bit congested and it was also quite hilly (see screenshot of Elevation from My Strava).

Towards the end (past the start and up to the finish near the Cathedral) they have a ‘Hill Sprint’, which is approximately 350m long and it almost destroyed Me (no sprinting was possible from Me)

Race Pack, Tee and Medal (above)

Technical Tee (above) these were available in a choice of Purple (Men) and Green (Women).

I completed the course in 25:55 (chip time), I was hoping for around 25 minutes but this course is really tuff and in the end I was happy with my time.

Would I run this again next year? Definitely (maybe even the 10K).
